By contrast in this house we are still suffering a little from the lurgy - and the walk to the bottom of the garden at 7pm to make wirework jewellery seemed a very long one, so I settled down with a hot water bottle!
Despite my aversion to Halloween, I did buy a pumpkin this weekend which the children set about with relish. OH was tasked with carving the face and between them I think they did a very good job.

'when you are both asleep, oh, and your brother is already asleep',
I left the room, just sat down on the chair in the room next door
' mum, I'm asleep now'!
so I went in blew out the candle and I never heard another sound!
Alongside this I thought I should try a new recipe. In my cookbook is a recipe for tomato and raisin loaf, sounds nice doesn't it? Probably lovely warm with soup? But oddly at the end at the end, it says, ' store in an airtight tin for 2-3 days, before slicing'. This has been bugging me, and today it got the better of me, I just had to bake it.

Now I just have to wait until Wednesday to announce the results!
The pumpkin looks great although it sounds like you scared the children more with health and safety talk! That loaf looks delicious, I don't think I could wait til wednesday if that was sat in my kitchen! Hope you all get better soon. x
ReplyDeleteThe loaf looks/sounds great - I will wait to find out the results! The pumpkin is great - think your H&S talk did the job! Mich :)
ReplyDeleteLOL Mum, I'm asleep now! Kids are so funny. :) I love that pumpkin, wish I would have done one this year, I don't think I've done one since the boys left home.
ReplyDeleteCAn't wait to see how the loaf turned out, that sounds interesting! Wish we could taste thru the internet!
You are right, tomato and raisin cake does sound lovely. bet it tastes good too. I love your pumpkin.
ReplyDeleteI wonder how sweet the cake will be? Could you not have a preliminary nibble and let us know?
ReplyDeleteGreat pumpkin carving... I am useless at that!
great pumpkin design we had a day designing ours today too and the great thing is I dont need to do it this year as they are old enough to get on with it and i can enjoy the results P.S they are 12 and 19 xxxx
ReplyDeleteLOL @Ros Made Me - that's exactly what I would do. Don't know how you are patient enough to leave it alone until Wednesday. The pumpkin looks fab.
ReplyDeletePumpkin looks fab (love the kids telling you they're asleep - sounds like Xmas eve!). The bread sounds fab. I would also be a secret nibbler, I'm afraid - no patience at all!
ReplyDeleteI had better confess that I made a 2nd cake at the same time - tea loaf. That was supposed to wait 24 hours, but only made it to 4 hours.
ReplyDeleteI love your pumpkin. I used to have pumpkin when I was young too. Your bread looks tasty
ReplyDeleteLovely story about the nightlight and that loaf looks delicious, but like you I wouldn't have been able to wait
ReplyDeleteYour pumpkin looks great and I am sure the kids really loved using it.
ReplyDeleteMy attempts at pumpkin carving certainly wouldn't make it into photographic form - better forgotten!!

We had a pumpkin but it went home with the grandsons this morning, and I chickened out of the pumpkin soup because the boys made bleugh noises! Very curious about that tomato and raisin loaf!
ReplyDeleteYour pumpkin looks great - I love the idea of using it as a nightlight. we've got one of the battery pumpkin lights you can get from Tescos or Asda so it is safe to leave unattended.

The cakes sound delish, love the pumpkin story too. I like the idea of Pickle Lilies battery light for the pumpkin.

ReplyDeleteSome cakes do taste better if you can leave your mitts off!! Like your pumpkin and can imagine your H&S talk!!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem when I bake bread. Everytime I walk back into the kitchen I find the crust has been taken off. Hubby always denies it is him so do I have ghosts!!! Hugs Mrs A.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a really yummy cake, will you share the recipe with us so we dont drool away?
