WOYWW - It WAS tidy, it really WAS

What's on your workbench Wednesday?
I tidied up, put all the fabric into piles (classified as: bag sized, small bag sized, handle sized and scraps (you never know when you will need those scraps)).
Cleared the desk with the exception of the sewing machine, and then... I let my children in the room.

They wanted to play buttons.  In my daughters case this is threading buttons onto a necklace, in my sons case this is driving a bus along an obstacle course of buttons ( I didn't stereotype my children, they have managed it all by themselves!).

Now to achieve these games you need the button board - a green board that has been dumped on my side of the room, with a small rim all the way around that stops buttons from escaping.
Unfortunately this was underneath all my fabric, so off it all came, and the best place to put it was back on my desk.
Would you believe I even did some sewing on it last night - yep even in that state!

I'm off to desk hop with WOYWW , but I've been relegated to the old computer, and I don't think blogger is letting me comment from this one, but we will see...

  2. My boys loved my button box!! Even at the ripe old ages of 18 and 15, they'll fight over certain buttons if we're playing our mad card games that need counters as well :D
I'm afraid I only bought that sign for Julia, didn't make it. She took it well though !!

  3. Mum's button tin really was one of my fab 'toys' as a child and many happy hours were spent sorting it's contents :-)

  4. I loved my grandmother's button tin and spent hours sorting them out and generally stroking the beautiful things in there. Our son used to spend hours just lying on the floor, just running his cars up and down the hearth rug, totally in his own world.

  5. Children and craft rooms eh! I have worked in smaller spaces though (sometimes just on top of the machine itself has been the only space!!) - love all your bags on the previous posts.

  6. I still love sorting through my buttons. I always did, and a chance to get Mum's button box out was a treat.
I used to manage a nursery and we were always told by 'those from the education dept.' that we were to actively discourage stereotyping, but you just can't do it - most of the time anyway. One of my sons did love his rag doll....

Do you really want to play on a dumfing machine? Maybe we could sort out a time to get together as both Annie and I have embellishers and also little hand dumfers for small projects. x Jo

  8. Thanks for your comment today, maybe I will join in WOYWW mext week. Buttons, now if that's not expressing their creativity I don't know what is. Would they like to play sorting buttons into colours? They can come and play that one at my house!

  9. Oh dear! What a shame all your hard work was undone but how lovely that your children wanted to play with buttons and not be stuck on the computer!
Have a lovely crafty week ahead.

  10. LOL! I love your little ones playing with your buttons. Mine are all in glass jars but my 2 year old likes to come in and shake them about. Love your scrap sorting too ;-)

  11. Aw! I used to spend many a happy hour at my Nan's house "sorting" her buttons for her. It was years before I realised that she used to cut the threads as soon as I left the house!! Oh the innocence of childhood ey - before the days of DSs and Daytime TV.
    Keep up with the sorting!!

  13. I also have very fond memories of button-boxes and can spend many a happy moment searching through my own. I love your sewing - you bags are just gorgeous. I dabble in sewing and for many years just me and one other lady has made costumes for school plays - usually upwards of 80 or so for each show. I gave up doing that two years ago though so need inspiration for using my sewing machine!

  15. Sis and I would play for hours with mums button tin.
Used them for monopoly money and most of the board games we had as kids. Fond memories there. Hugs Mrs A.

  16. Oh what memories...we didn't have a button board but my word, I did a lot of threading! You are a generous patient and wonderful Mum - and that's just for letting them into your room!!

  17. OH ... I quite forgot to thank you very much for your comments on my blog! I had to smile because you do at least have a logo ... even a tiny one ... I have tried to add mine but it says it is too large so I have to crop it and try again. Hopefully soon! X

  18. Ha ha ha!! Love the picture of the buttons and the bus!! This has brought back memories for me, going through my mum's and my grandmother's button boxes when I was little! I still rummage through mine once in a while - I've got some precious WWI Royal Engineers' army uniform buttons from my grandfather which I am sure I shall never sew on anything, but which I can't possibly part with! Who could imagine the stories such a humble thing as a button could hold? My grandfather served in the trenches and nearly lost his leg. He was also in charge of wiring Dover Castle for electricity which he though would be a doddle till he found out the walls were 20 feet thick! When we went there, I looked for junction boxes and thought of him!

    Happy belated WOYWW, Shoshi #84

  20. My aim is to now add some "pretty bits" to my blog ... I LOVE MaggieC's Christmas countdown and I want to add more "gadgets" but am taking it all one step at a time and not rushing into anything! Basically because I haven't a clue how to do it. Sorry to hear blogger sometimes causes problems ... but kinda great knowing it isn't just me. x
