WOYWW - the amazon effect

The wash basket has been replaced by a cardboard box!
Well today is Wedneday so 'whats on my workbench Wednesday'? I'm not really sure where my workbench is any more.  I have so many ideas rushing around in my head that every bit of craft equipment has migrated into the house.  (The 'summer' workbench, down in the studio is lovely and tidy).  This cardboard box is just part of the 'pile' that now lives in the bedroom.

The postman is no doubt objecting to this sudden diversity of interests too.  We live up a long, steep, rough driveway, and everyday a new parcel arrives to satisfy the ideas that are rushing around inside.

Do you remember back to the olden days of Kays catalogue? (My mum didn't buy from Kays, she bought from something else, but for the life of me I can't remember the name).  Anyway you would choose the item, send off your form and then wait, and wait, and wait.  The standard phrase was ' please allow 28 days for delivery'.

Then along came the internet, and finally Amazon and Screwfix, and now we expect things the next day.

But a few weeks ago I wanted something and I trawled the internet and I could only find one company that sold precisely what I wanted.  When I placed my order it did say 7-10 days, but really, I mean that was just a catch-all, surely?

Nope, it has taken 2 weeks for me to receive 20 sample cards to put my embroidery into.  So here, finally, are a few raw edge applique cards.  But if anyone knows a source of tri fold aperature cards at a reasonable price please let me know!

  1. Beautiful work, just love those cards what a great effect, Have a great week, Hugs May x x x

  2. Gorgeous cards. Have you tried Craft Creations for your aperture cards, I have always found them pretty good :)

Have a great WOYWW, Luv Karen #80

  3. I normally use Craft Creations too for my cards and am always pleased with them.

  4. I wish I had know - I would have popped a few in my parcel for you! I usually use Craft Creations or pick some up at the Garden Centre - Percy Throwers in Shrewsbury.

  5. Lovely crafty place and lovely cards! :) Happy WOYWW! Hugs, Joanna #123
Ps. And you have a new follower now, too! :)

  6. Love your applique! Great stuff!

  7. I really like your applique!

  8. Cute cards!! You might want to check Photographer's Edge and see if the cards they use for photographs would work.... good luck in the hunt!

    Happy WOYWW

  9. Very 'Poppy Treffry' look (which I love). I forget just how lucky I am being surrounded by all that London has to offer. I do know about waiting for the postman, however, as I often buy fabric from USA - and then wait to see if I have to pay customs duty (and all the extras) upon delivery. xx

  10. Love those applique cards - very funky look, especially the bird. Do you use a walking foot to do the machine embroidery?? Hope your kids enjoyed making frost angels *grin* I enjoyed jumping on the icy puddle!! LOL
    Hugs, LLJ #45 xx

  11. What lovely cards. As for Kays, I remember my Mum shopping with them. I lost count of the number of parcels we had to send back because clothes were the wrong size!!

  12. I do love Amazon, especially now they seem to sell everything! your embroidered cards are so pretty! I used to use a place called card creations for my aperture cards back in my cross stitch days, they were fab but don't even know if they are still around. tried to search them but no luck!

  13. no, it is craft creations, found them here

  14. Lol! there's nothing worse (or better I suppose!) than the wait on your new stash arriving! Sometimes the anticipation is better than the actual stash, but we still want to have it yesterday!

Thanks for your comment on my blog!

Isn't that "washing basket" going to get squigey when the washing goes in wet?

  20. I don't exactly know what you are doing here - working with fabric! Looks like American Folk Art and all I want to say is - I LOVE IT!
